It may not control inflation is left to the market

Jakarta: The government continues to raise the purchasing power of people, including farmers and fishermen. That is why inflation should be controlled, should not be left entirely to market mechanisms. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said this in his speech opening the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) III Regional Inflation Control Team at the 2012 Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday (16/5) morning.

"Inflation will always be there, both in normal circumstances let alone in a world crisis. So the government also must play an active role to curb inflation, and should not be solely left to market mechanisms," said President SBY.

To that end, the President welcomed the initiative from the ranks of the government and Bank Indonesia to play and turn on Inflation Control Team considering the importance of their task.

The Government, he added, trying to reconcile between the prices of goods and purchasing power. "It would be a problem when the prices of goods and services purchased by us will suddenly rise and keep rising, especially the increase is not fair," Yudhoyono added. The President reminded again that all results achieved by the government is for the welfare of society.

It is a dilemma often arises in the determination of food prices, for example. On the one hand, farmers want higher price of their products so as to provide a better income. While the public wants affordable prices of rice in their purchasing power. Problems of this kind must find a solution by Inflation Control Team. (arc)
